ASCE seeks public comment on two structural standards

ASCE is seeking comments on two professional standards this spring.

The public-comment period for the update to ASCE/SEI 49 Wind Tunnel Testing for Buildings and Other Structures runs through March 17.

ASCE/SEI 49 provides minimum requirements for wind tunnel tests to determine wind loads on and responses of buildings and other structures. Loads considered in this standard are wind loads for main wind-force-resisting systems and for individual structural components and cladding of buildings and other structures. Loads produced by tests meeting the specifications of this standard are suitable for use as design wind loads in applicable building codes and standards.

Meanwhile, ASCE is also accepting public comments on ASCE/SEI 59 Blast Protection of Buildings through April 1.

ASCE/SEI 59 provides minimum planning, design, construction, and assessment requirements for new and existing buildings subject to the effects of individual accidental or malicious explosions, including principles for establishing appropriate threat parameters, levels of protection, loadings, analysis methodologies, materials, detailing, and test procedures.
