Young Earns Hardesty Award

ASCE has honored Ben Young, Ph.D., F.ASCE, with the 2020 Shortridge Hardesty Award for his research contributions to the stability design of cold-formed steel and stainless steel members, including the development of design specifications in North America.

Young has published many papers on structural engineering, including more than 50 in ASCE’s Journal of Structural Engineering, and has also presented several keynote lectures on the topic of structural stability in international conferences. He is widely known as a leading researcher in experimental structural stability. He is a co–chief editor of the Journal of Constructional Steel Research.

The Shortridge Hardesty Award is given to a member or members of the Society who have contributed substantially in applying fundamental results of research to the solution of practical engineering problems in the field of structural stability.
