Ostadan Named Bechtel Energy Award Winner

ASCE has honored Farhang Ostadan, P.E., F.ASCE,with the 2019 Stephen D. Bechtel Jr. Energy Award for significant contributions to practice, research, and codification activities for advancing soil-structure interaction analysis and seismic analysis in the energy industry, in particular the nuclear power industry. 

In the past 30+ years, Ostadan has earned his reputation as a worldwide earthquake engineering authority through his numerous contributions to several key areas in that field, and is best known for his research and development work on soil-structure interaction for the nuclear power industry.

Ostadan has led the writing of the mandatory language and commentary associated with the geotechnical engineering components of ASCE 1, ASCE 4, and ASCE 42, all dealing with analysis and design of safety-related nuclear facilities.

The Stephen D. Bechtel Jr. Energy Award was established to recognize outstanding achievements in the energy field by a civil engineer.
