Jeanjean of BP America Now an ASCE Fellow

Philippe Jeanjean, Ph.D., P.E., F.ASCE, a geotechnical engineer with over 26 years of industry experience, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.

Jeanjean is currently the technical authority, that is, head of Geotechnics, for the Exploration and Production Upstream Segment of BP America Inc., a major oil and gas operator. He leads a team of geotechnical engineers from his base in Houston. He is accountable for all worldwide expert advice to projects, operations and drilling teams in geotechnically related matters associated with onshore and offshore pipelines; offshore fixed, floating and subsea structures; onshore oil and gas terminals; LNG (liquified natural gas) plants; and anchoring of drilling rigs.

He chaired API and ISO committees for 14 years and has been a key contributor to offshore codes and standards for 26 years. He also chaired the ISSMGE Technical Committee 209 on Offshore Geotechnics for eight years and established the ISSMGE McClelland Honor Lecture.

Jeanjean has published more than 50 technical papers in conferences and journals on the design of offshore pile foundation, mooring suction anchors, well conductors and the assessment of offshore geohazards. He has delivered 12 invited keynote lectures at industry conferences and events, including the 2019 Coulomb Lecture in Paris, and holds one patent.
