Gary Gilbert, Orange County Branch Past President, Dies at 43

Gary Gilbert, P.E., G.E., ENV SP, M.ASCE, an active member of California’s Orange County Branch and dedicated civil engineer, has died at the age of 43.

Gilbert was the Branch’s immediate past president, serving as president for the 2014-15 term. He joined ASCE in 1995 and served in several leadership positions, including Student Chapter president at California State University, Long Beach, Orange County Younger Member Forum president, and Los Angeles Section treasurer.

“We mourn the tragic passing of Gary Gilbert, he was a friend and mentor to each of us on the OC Branch Board. We will miss his leadership and contributions to ASCE, the profession and the community, but most of all, we will miss Gary,” read a statement by the Orange County Branch on its Facebook page, which filled with comments and memories from Gilbert’s friends, colleagues, and loved ones.

Gilbert worked for Diaz, Yourman and Associates Geotechnical Services of Santa Ana, CA, for 18 years, including the last eight as an associate/shareholder. He was extremely active with Engineers Without Borders USA, taking a lead in the Orange County Chapter’s work in Honduras.

Donations in Gilbert’s name may be made to the Engineers Without Borders USA Orange County Chapter.
