What could be better than the return of ASCE’s Innovation Contest?
Two ASCE innovation contests.
In its fifth year, ASCE’s annual search for creative, new infrastructure solutions has grown into two related competitions – the traditional Innovation Contest and the ASCE Regional Student Innovation Contest.
Both contests will hold final competitions during the ASCE 2020 Convention in Anaheim, California, Oct. 30-31.
The ASCE Innovation Contest was developed as a part of the ASCE Grand Challenge as a springboard for forward-looking infrastructure ideas.
The main Innovation Contest, open to anyone with a high school diploma (faculty, industry professionals, undergrads, grad students, consultants, entrepreneurs and others), is accepting entries through July 15.
This year’s contest welcomes entries in six categories:
• Internet of Things / artificial intelligence
• Sustainable and resilient engineering
• Next-generation transportation
• Improvements in clean water
• New construction materials and methodology
• General civil infrastructure improvement
The top 10-to-12 finalists will showcase their innovations for an international audience at the ASCE 2020 Convention, while competing for two $5,000 prizes: the ASCE Innovation Contest Award and the ASCE Grand Challenge Award.
Meanwhile, the ASCE Regional Student Innovation Contest has expanded this year after launching last spring in a limited form. The contest is open to college student teams from schools participating in the following ASCE Student Conferences:
• Texas-Mexico Conference
• Southeast Conference
• Carolinas Conference
• Mid-Continent Conference
• Upstate New York Conference
Teams finishing first or second in their student conferences will advance to the national competition at the ASCE Convention, where they’ll compete to win cash prizes for the top three innovations.
