Lawrence (Larry) Goldberg, P.E., F.ASCE, director of infrastructure at CivilTech Engineering Inc., has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.
Goldberg has over 37 years of experience in civil engineering. At CivilTech he is responsible for City Infrastructure, County Infrastructure, and residential and commercial developments projects. Prior to joining the firm, he served a year as regional sales director for Neuvokas Corporation, representing a fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) rebar product. Before Neuvokas he served as executive vice president of Landev Engineering. Goldberg was also a partial owner in Earthwork Solutions Inc. (ESOL), an engineering software company, for nearly six years, developing an advancement for compaction of earthwork.
His experience spans design, management and construction of public and private infrastructure, residential and commercial developments, transportation and flood control projects. He has taken the opportunity to work on hundreds of projects, ranging from feasibility studies and preliminary design to final design and construction phase services. Other career endeavors include drainage channels, traffic studies, traffic signals, traffic control plans, public infrastructure projects, large and small transportation projects, bridges, airports, site developments, pump stations, stormwater lift stations, stormwater detention facilities and residential developments.
Goldberg’s involvement with ESOL provided firsthand insight into new technology and innovation. Working closely with the University of Houston allowed him to better understand the academia side of the industry. The need for updated technologies within our industry was brought to the forefront. He gained knowledge about sustainable infrastructure during the term with Neuvokas Corporation, as well as the perspective to push the envelope to obtain acceptance of new products. Learning new ways to manufacture FRP rebar and demonstrating to the industry how this product will continue to compete with the steel rebar was paramount.
He has been the ASCE Houston Branch President (2000-2001) and the ASCE Texas Section President (2017-2018). He has enjoyed numerous board and committee positions and is currently past president of the Texas Section. He is also a member of ACEC’s Water Resources Committee and serves as a municipal utility district Board Director for Harris County MUD No. 261.
Goldberg was honored with the John Focht Jr. Citizen Award in 1994, the Houston Branch Award of Honor in 2011, and the Texas Section Professional Service Award in 2015.
He earned his B.S. degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University (Class of ’81), and is a licensed engineer in the state of Texas.
