Anthony S. Bartolomeo, P.E., ENV SP, Dist.M.ASCE, both an eminent and expert civil and environmental engineer, has been honored with inclusion in ASCE’s 2018 class of Distinguished Members for a visionary practice and business acumen of the highest caliber in integrating innovative solutions that address the social, financial, ethical, and legal challenges in today’s built environment.

Bartolomeo is the current president and chief executive officer of Pennoni, the world-class, multidiscipline consulting engineering firm headquartered in Philadelphia. His impeccable character and sense of purpose have aided him in over 40 years of experience, which has seen him both grow an engineering company and facilitate solid relationships among federal, state, and local governments and the communities the firm serves. All of this has had a stake in the success of major civil infrastructure projects. His respect abounds in the local business community and the A/E/C industry as a whole.

During his service on former Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett’s Marcellus Shale Advisory Commission, Bartolomeo’s efforts directly contributed to greater measures regarding the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible extraction and use of unconventional natural gas reserves in the commonwealth. In addition, as chairman of the Board of the World Trade Center of Greater Philadelphia for seven years, he was instrumental in accelerating global business growth for companies in that region. Under his direction, WTCGP assisted in generating some $1 billion in increased export sales and creating more than 12,500 jobs.

Bartolomeo is a member and former chair of the Industry Leaders Council, out of which he led the development of the ASCE Grand Challenge, a brisk call-to-action for the civil engineering profession. In recognition of his efforts, he received the 2016 ASCE Presidents’ Award (also in 2014), and more recently was awarded the 2017 OPAL for management. These awards acknowledge also his ongoing commitment to encouraging youth to attain 21st-century skills and postsecondary education. Other awards include the Outstanding Director Award from the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Along with the ILC, he is also a member the ASCE Task Committee on Global Strategy, a current member and past chair of the American Council of Engineering Companies’ Design Professionals Coalition, and chairman of the advisory board of the Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation and of Rutgers University’s School of Civil & Environmental Engineering.

Bartolomeo recently completed certification as an Envision Sustainability Professional by the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure. He is a licensed professional engineer in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.
