Roy M. Alverson, a Life Member with a passion for applying his professional skills in the Tuscaloosa, AL, community he was born and raised in, has died at 76.

He joined ASCE in 1965 and had been active in a variety of roles with the Tuscaloosa Branch.

Alverson graduated from the University of Alabama with a B.S. degree in civil engineering and a master’s in petroleum engineering.

His career took him all over the southern United States, from Texas to Louisiana to Kentucky. But Tuscaloosa, AL, was always home. He was born there, grew up there, and practiced there for many years. In 1973, he wrote and published a history of the Mobile region’s water supply.

Alverson met his wife, Karin, as a student at the University of Alabama. They married in 1959, and enjoyed 58 years together. “You have to enjoy every day, and I think we did that,” she said.

In addition to his wife, Alverson is survived by a son, Steven.
