Langan VP Elevated to Fellow

Alzamora

Arthur Alzamora, P.E., F.ASCE, senior associate and vice president at Langan Engineering & Environmental Services Inc., and a significant contributor to the civil engineering industry, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.

Alzamora is a vital part of Langan’s geotechnical engineering team, providing technical expertise and exceptional communication between project team members on challenging high-profile projects. By displaying a leadership style that is relatable, engages staff, and facilitates professional growth, he has earned the reputation of being a positive mentor and approachable technical resource for younger engineers and clients.

He has played a key role in some of the largest and most notable projects in the New York City Metropolitan area, such as One Vanderbilt in Midtown Manhattan and the Cornell Tech campus on Roosevelt Island. The former is a 67-story, 1,401-foot-tall tower directly bordering Grand Central Terminal. As the project design lead, Alzamora was responsible for safely excavating and constructing multiple below-grade levels while providing connections to several transit and commuter train lines in one of the busiest train stations in North America.

Alzamora, a member of several professional groups, has held leadership roles in ASCE since 2000, ascending from an officer position in his student chapter at Manhattan College to president of ASCE Metropolitan. Getting involved with the Younger Member Forum when its number of dedicated members was a fraction of what it is today, he became YMF president in 2008 and quickly expanded the forum. He also volunteered much of his time to advancing the Metropolitan Section during his time as director, vice president, and president.

He continues to play an active role in professional organizations because it gives him the opportunity to inspire and support the future leaders of engineering. He also advocates for those leaders by serving as a mentor at Langan, and he teaches night classes at Manhattan College, presents lively talks on career development, and volunteers for charitable and community organizations.

In recognition of his dedication to the industry, ENR New York named Alzamora one of the Top 20 Under 40 professionals in 2016.
