George R. Koerner, Ph.D., P.E., F.ASCE, director of the Geosynthetic Institute (GSI), in Folsom, Pennsylvania, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.
Koerner is a leader in his field, with 35 years of experience integrating polymers into sub-, near-, and on-surface applications related to geotechnical, transportation, hydraulic, and geoenvironmental engineering challenges. He teaches courses on the subject regularly and is recognized as the founder and lead auditor of the Geosynthetic Accreditation Institute’s Laboratory Accreditation Program (GAI-LAP). This program is a statistical quality assurance mechanism that enables laboratories to evaluate and improve performance while fulfilling International accreditation requirements. One hundred seventeen (117) laboratories have participated in the program from over 21 countries around the world in the past 25 years of the program.
Koerner is the author of several book chapters and has written over 180 technical publications related to field and laboratory evaluation of geosynthetics.
He earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. from Drexel University, in Philadelphia. He is also a certified quality auditor (CQA).
