Kazmi Earns Fellow Honors

Qamar A. O. Kazmi, P.E., F.ASCE, a principal and senior consultant in the Maryland offices of Terracon Consultants Inc., has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.

Kazmi’s experience is in directing, managing, and performing projects involving all facets of geotechnical engineering – from siting and planning, to detailed geotechnical investigation and design, to construction oversight, to investigating failures. Specializing in geotechnical engineering, he has worked projects involving buildings, commercial and industrial complexes, tunnels, pipelines, dams, municipal treatment plants, refineries, bridges, highways, metro lines, and landfills and other waste-related sites.

He serves on the Project Review Board for DC Water’s $2 billion Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) / Clean Rivers project and was the chair of the Geotechnical Advisory Team for the then-proposed $250 million Egg-Shaped Digester Facility at the Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant, also in Washington.

Kazmi has been actively associated with ASCE’s National Capital Section for about 35 years. He has served as chair of various professional and technical committees for the NCS, on its Board of Directors, and as President of the Section. Since 2012 he has served as speaker chair for Virginia GeoInstitute’s GeoVirginia Conference. He was also the editor of Geotechnical Abstracts from 1994 to 2004.

A licensed professional engineer in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia, he holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the NED Engineering College, Karachi, Pakistan, and a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
