ASCE has honored Vineet R. Kamat, Ph.D., M.ASCE, with this year’s Peurifoy Construction Research Award for his groundbreaking research in construction automation, robotics, augmented reality, real-time monitoring and visual simulation, as well as for his significant impact on the construction engineering and management profession.
Kamat’s record as a faculty member and as an exemplary leader in the ASCE Construction Institute’s professional activities has been exemplary. He has excelled in all facets of scholarship in the Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) field. He is a knowledgeable and passionate scholar whose mission has been the creation and proliferation of new knowledge in CEM, and its application in professional practice. His research efforts in CEM have broadly focused on the design of advanced visualization methods for solving construction problems.
His research has impacted the CEM professional practice through a variety of entrepreneurial, scholarly and dissemination activities that include commercialization of developed technologies, collaboration with industry partners, archival publications in ASCE journals, research presentations at visible ASCE conferences and professional events, and widespread distribution of developed software tools. His work in CEM has contributed to improving the safety and productivity of visibility-constrained construction processes such as urban excavation; improved the effectiveness of highway bridge inspectors in condition assessment of bridge infrastructure; provided a new theoretical foundation for innovations in construction automation and robotics by outlining differences between civil engineering and other automated disciplines; and contributed to reducing the time and cost of constructed facilities through use of visual simulation.
Kamat’s scholarly work in CEM has been making significant positive influences in defining the current and future direction of innovation in CEM. He strongly meets the criteria for the Peurifoy Construction Research Award and is thus an exceptional candidate for this honor.
The Peurifoy Construction Research Award is made to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of construction engineering through research and development of new technology, principles or practice.
