Grubbs now an ASCE Fellow

Grubbs

Joe Grubbs, P.E., F.ASCE, senior professional associate at HDR and a civil engineer with over 30 years’ experience in airfield design, construction, and construction management, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.

Over his career, Grubbs has developed design experience and expertise in providing technical solutions for a broad range of airfield-related challenges, including conducting pavement evaluation; developing pavement rehabilitation design, designing new concrete, and bituminous pavements; and designing drainage and deicing collection systems and developing construction safety and phasing designs for 24 runways and many associated taxiways and aircraft parking and deicing aprons at numerous Top 20 domestic commercial service airports as well as several military airfield installations.

His experience also includes construction management and program design management of airfield runway, taxiway and apron, and associated airfield lighting and signage systems at several civilian airfields.

Grubbs’ engineering profession has enabled him to enjoy a challenging but rewarding career in the aviation design industry. In his role with HDR, he continues applying his expertise in the industry while embracing and cultivating new technologies and innovation improvements to the airfield design process and mentoring and coaching younger engineers and students in the art of the application of airfield design principals.   

He is an active member and participant in such professional organizations as the Airport Consultants Council, ASCE, and the Construction Management Association of America.

Grubbs graduated from Youngstown State University in 1990 with a bachelor of engineering degree and is a registered professional engineer in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Arizona, Florida, New York, North Carolina, and Ohio.
