Duluth Section Former President Dies at 83

Life Member John P. Bergson, a registered land surveyor and former president of the ASCE Duluth Section, whose works can be found across Minnesota, has died at 83.

Bergson, P.E., M.ASCE, began his interest in civil engineering while working for the City of Duluth (MN) and Duluth Engineering during his college years.
Following graduation, he worked briefly for the Minnesota Department of Transportation, then for DM&IR Railroad, before spending the majority of his career with Salo Engineering Inc. His project work expanded quickly to works beyond Duluth, stretching across Minnesota. The Duluth International Airport was among the many projects he was involved in.

A lifelong Duluth area resident, Bergson grew up during the Depression on the family dairy farm, where he gained an appreciation for hard work and integrity that would serve him well as a professional engineer. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
