De Battista Elevated to Fellow Status

Daniel J. De Battista, P.E., F.ASCE, office manager for Terracon’s Las Vegas operations, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.

De Battista has worked in the fields of geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing / special inspection for over 22 years in the Ohio River Valley and Southwestern United States. He has thus far applied himself to the design and construction of various commercial, public works, residential, and forensic projects, including large concrete tilt-up retail, industrial, and warehouse buildings, government facilities, new and rehabilitated flexible and rigid pavement roadways, freeways and bridges, concrete, masonry, and rockery retaining walls, slope stability and landslide mitigation and repair, fault and fissure studies, liquefaction analyses, cast-in-place drilled shaft foundations, deep foundation integrity testing, and tie-backs and helical piers.

He has also worked on new and reconstructed elementary and high school campuses, university campus student facilities, civilian and military airport runways and traffic control towers, military base support facilities, water and wastewater pipelines and plants, solar energy plants and electrical substations and transmission lines, sports and entertainment arenas and theaters, parking garages, resorts and casinos, water storage tanks, geosynthetic reinforced pavement subgrades and foundation soils, master-planned residential communities, churches, parks and trails, low- and mid-rise commercial and residential buildings, high-rise hotels, and construction defect litigation.

De Battista has been involved with ASCE’s Younger Member Forum and Southern Nevada Branch since 1998 and as a board member since 2011, culminating as Branch President in 2015. As an undergraduate he worked as a research assistant on the gradation properties of concrete aggregates and in the development of a hydraulic test apparatus for measurement of the flowability of sands. Later, his master’s thesis focused on the compressibility and permeability of geosynthetic clay liners, resulting in the publication of three technical papers in the Journal of Geotextiles and Geomembranes (1996) and Geosynthetics International (1996).

He graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with Honor in 1994 with a B.S. in civil engineering, and from Purdue University in 1996 with an M.S. in civil engineering. He is a licensed professional engineer in the states of Nevada, California, Utah, Arizona, and Washington, and a licensed geotechnical engineer in California.
