Jeffrey S. Chiu, Esq., P.E., F.ASCE, who for 20 years has brought an award-winning practice to structural and general civil engineering, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.
As the president of Kun-young Chiu & Associates Inc., with offices in Valdosta and Atlanta, Chiu has been awarded for the design and construction management of military, institutional, transportation, and other public infrastructure. He is noted for his definitive assessments of infrastructure damage caused by disasters; especially notable are his airborne triage inspections as a Lt. Colonel and disaster response volunteer with the Civil Air Patrol, the auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force.
Chiu displays his acumen for state government affairs with the ASCE Georgia Section, and nationally on the State Government Affairs Committee. As an attorney and civil engineer, he is particularly adept in communicating with legislators during the annual ASCE Legislative Fly-Ins, ASCE Georgia efforts, and in Civil Air Patrol contacts with Congress, reminding the U.S. Congress, Georgia Legislature, and Governor of the very troubling shortfalls in infrastructure funding.
In Georgia, he plays a vital role in updating the aviation section of the quinquennial ASCE Georgia Infrastructure Report Cards, an effort that, along with his government affairs leadership with the American Council of Engineering Companies in Georgia, has been very successful in reviving transportation funding in that state.
As an attorney, Chiu is licensed to practice before the U.S. and Georgia Supreme Courts, is registered with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution, and is the Government Relations Advisor and Legal Officer with the Georgia Wing of the Civil Air Patrol.
