ASCE has honored Pratin Biswas, Ph.D., A.M.ASCE, NAE, with the 2022 Simon W. Freese Environmental Engineering Award and Lecture for his extraordinary accomplishments in using fundamental scientific principles and current research findings to solve the most challenging environmental problems.
Biswas is an expert in aerosol science and technology, and is currently working on the development of environmentally benign energy technologies. He is also an expert on nanoparticle technology.
He is currently the dean of engineering, University of Miami, and before that was the Lucy and Stanley Lopata Professor at Washington University in St. Louis. He has been instrumental in starting University-wide Energy and Environmental Programs. He is the director of the McDonnell Academy Global Energy and Environmental Partnership (MAGEEP), a partnership of 35 leading universities tackling global-challenge problems involving energy and environment.
The Simon W. Freese Environmental Engineering Award and Lecture is awarded to a distinguished environmental engineer whom the ASCE Executive Director will invite to deliver a lecture at a given meeting of the Society.
