ASCE Past President Named Director of Nevada DOT

ASCE 2019 Past President Kristina Swallow, P.E., ENV SP, Pres.18.ASCE, has been appointed director of the Nevada Department of Transportation.

In announcing the appointment, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak emphasized that Swallow’s distinguished career as a civil engineer and public servant made her the ideal choice to guide the state’s transportation infrastructure.

“I’m looking forward to serving in this role,” Swallow said. “We have a really great team, and I’m excited to use my background to build a resilient and sustainable transportation system that serves Nevada’s citizens and visitors.”

Swallow has spent nearly 25 years as a civil engineer tackling challenges faced by clients and agencies.

Throughout her professional career, Swallow has been a small-business owner and consultant, worked as a program manager in city government, operated as a lobbyist in the Nevada State Legislature, and served as a legislative aide in the U.S. Senate. Her varied civil engineering experience includes working in flood control, traffic impact analysis and mitigation, land development, public works, and transportation policy.

“Kristina is an inspirational leader and role model with wide-ranging professional, technical, and public policy experience, a passion for community service, and extraordinary communications and leadership skills,” said ASCE Executive Director Tom Smith.
