ASCE Names Iyer a Fellow

Seshadri S. Iyer, Ph.D., P.E., F.ASCE, a water resources professional and current group manager at AECOM in Virginia Beach, VA, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.

Iyer has over three decades of professional experience. He has covered a variety of projects, including modeling and analysis of water distribution/transmission systems, stormwater and sanitary sewer systems, and hydrologic and hydraulic systems. In addition, he is involved in the development of software programs for water distribution network analysis.

His 15 years with AECOM have been spent working on numerous projects primarily for the cities of Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and Norfolk. He also lends his efforts to state and federal projects. Iyer manages a group of eight stormwater professionals and takes pride in the responsibility of mentoring young engineers. As part of his responsible role, he leads the group in the development of master plans and construction documents.

For over a decade, Iyer has taught undergraduates and graduates at the Old Dominion University, in Norfolk. His courses include Urban Stormwater Hydrology, Hydraulic Engineering, Open Channel Hydraulics, and Groundwater Hydraulics.

He is an active member of ASCE and the Virginia Lakes and Watershed Association (VLWA). He reviews manuscripts for ASCE’s Journal of Hydrologic Engineering, and serves on both the Watershed Management Technical Committee and the TMDL Analysis and Modeling Task Committee. For VLWA he is on the board of directors as well as actively involved in the Scholarship and Watershed committees. From 2007 to 2017 he served as the newsletter editor for the organization.

Iyer is a 1982 graduate in civil engineering from Bangalore University, India. He also holds an M.S. from Indian Institute of Technology, in Madras, and a Ph.D. in civil engineering from Old Dominion University.
