Each year, one of the industry’s leading trade publications, Engineering News-Record, recognizes its Top 25 Newsmakers, a veritable “who’s who” of industry innovators and influencers.
And once again, the ENR list features a number of prominent ASCE members.
Here are the Society members honored by ENR among its Top 25 Newsmakers for 2019:
• Glenn Bell, C.Eng, P.E., S.E., F.SEI, F.ASCE – 2020 Structural Engineering Institute president and an ASCE Life Member, recognized for working with SEI to establish Confidential Reporting on Structural Safety-United States (CROSS-US), an initiative allowing structural engineers to report anonymously on problems they see.
• Gerald Buckwalter, M.ASCE – ASCE’s chief operating and strategy officer, acclaimed as the driving force behind the Future World Vision initiative.
• Cris Liban, P.E., F.ASCE – chief sustainability officer of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority and chair of ASCE’s Committee on Sustainability, recognized for making LA Metro a national leader in sustainable practices and for making ASCE’s 2019 International Conference on Sustainable Infrastructure a success.
• Daniel Speight, P.E., M.ASCE – president and principal structural engineer of Speight Marshall & Francis in Virginia Beach, Virginia, honored for developing and deploying a new, untested jacking procedure that saved a 9-floor, 3,000-ton building by correcting a 21-inch lean.
ENR will salute these and the rest of its Top 25 Newsmakers at its annual Award of Excellence Gala, April 6 in New York.
