ASCE Honors Durgaprasad as Fellow

Janjanam Durgaprasad, Ph.D., S.E., F.ASCE, a research scientist and professor of civil engineering at Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology, Bengaluru, India, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.

Durgaprasad started his professional career as the senior research fellow at National Aeronautical Laboratory (NAL-CSIR), Bangalore, in 1991 and moved the next year to the Structural Engineering Research Centre (SERC-CSIR), Chennai, to serve as a scientist. Later his work took him to the U.K., then back to India for employment with various educational organizations until 2016.

He has 28 years of teaching and research experience and teaches undergraduate as well as postgraduate students at Sharda University and GMR Institute of Technology. He has assisted/guided Ph.D. scholars at such prestigious centers of learning as Sharda and the University of Bristol, U.K., and has traveled to share his work and experience at Carnegie Mellon University and Texas Tech University, in the U.S.

He has 11 Scopus indexed/SCI publications in peer-reviewed international journals and has registered several patents. Major publishers – ASCE, John Wiley, Elsevier, Blackwell, etc. – have published his papers in their journals, and Durgaprasad has himself reviewed several technical papers for ASCE and IEEE. His reputation was advanced further by a paper published in ASCE’s Journal of Computing in Civil Engineering in 1997, after which ASCE invited him, based on his original research contribution, to author a book which is now in the offing.

Durgaprasad had a fellowship from UNDP in 1994, has a published biography in “Who’s Who in the World” (Millennium edition of the Marquis, USA, 2001), and was selected by ASCE independently for help in awarding its membership throughout 1998. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers, India, and a life member of both the Indian Society for Technical Education and Indian Society of Wind Engineering.
