Kent A. Harries, Ph.D., P.Eng., F.ASCE, a professor of structural engineering and mechanics at the University of Pittsburgh, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.
Harries’ research interests include the use of nonconventional materials in civil infrastructure – ranging from FRP to titanium to bamboo – prestressed concrete bridge structures and coupled high-rise structures. He is the author of over 290 peer-reviewed articles and three book chapters, and is co-editor of “Nonconventional and Vernacular Construction Materials,” which is presently being updated and expanded for a second edition.
Currently he serves as a vice president of the International Institute for FRP in Construction (IIFC), senior editor of the Journal of Construction and Building Materials, chair of ACI Committee 440F (Repair of Concrete with FRP) and on numerous other U.S. and international codes and standards development committees, including ASCE FCAPS. Harries is presently leading the effort to revise ISO 22156–“Bamboo Structural Design.”
He is a Fellow of both ACI and IIFC, is a professional engineer in Ontario, Canada, and was Leverhulme Visiting Professor at the University of Bath (UK) in AY2018.
Harries received his doctorate from McGill University in 1995.
