Kevin R. Mackie, Ph.D., P.E., F.ASCE, professor and associate chair in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Construction Engineering at the University of Central Florida, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.
Mackie’s research interests are in performance-based assessment of bridges and buildings to seismic loading, applications of reliability and probabilistic methods to response of structures to extreme dynamic loads, nonlinear analysis and numerical methods applied to problems in structures and beyond, and experimental and computational evaluation of advanced composite materials to repair of deficient infrastructure. He has published more than 150 research papers and reports which have been cited more than 2,000 times.
He has actively contributed to technical activities committees within ASCE/SEI and ACI. He currently chairs the Dynamic Effects TAC and has served as a technical activities chair of numerous committees since 2010. He is also the faculty advisor for the ASCE-UCF Student Chapter and the Chi Epsilon student chapter.
Mackie has been an active educator and mentor of future engineers from the high school level to doctoral research level. As well, he has served as director of the undergraduate programs, assessment, curriculum, and advising at UCF since 2013.
He received his B.S. in civil engineering from the Cooper Union (1998), and his M.S. (2000) and Ph.D. (2004) in structural engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
