Michael J. Lembo, P.E., F.ASCE, patent portfolio manager of CertainTeed LLC and an engineer with more than 30 years of active practice in construction engineering and construction materials, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.
The CertainTeed LLC companies are manufacturers of interior and exterior construction products, including roofing, siding, gypsum board, insulation, and ceilings, and are based in Malvern, Pennsylvania. Through the responsible development of innovative and sustainable building products, the group has helped shape the building products industry for more than 110 years. A subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, one of the world’s largest and oldest building products companies since 1665, CertainTeed and its affiliates have more than 6,300 employees and more than 60 manufacturing facilities throughout the United States and Canada.
Lembo, in addition to management of the Intellectual Property portfolio for the company’s North American operations, is an inventor on over 25 U.S. and international patents for construction products and methods of manufacturing and using construction products.
Besides ASCE, he is a member, officer, and volunteer with organizations including Toastmasters, the Knights of Columbus, YouthBuild, and the Delaware Valley Science Fairs. In all of these, he works to encourage problem solving, skills improvement, and the promotion of STEM education and careers to the current and next generation.
Previous to his current role, Lembo held multiple positions of increasing responsibility in capital project management, research and development, and marketing and sales with CertainTeed. This was after holding positions in construction management, production, and R&D with Mobil Chemical Company (now ExxonMobil), James River Corporation, and Grumman Aerospace.
Lembo obtained his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, New York – 1990), and his P.E. registration is in the State of Delaware (1997). He is also a Registered Patent Agent and licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
