Rasheed Adekunle Hassan, C.Eng, F.ASCE, owner and chief executive officer of RSM Services Limited, an engineering supplier and consultancy firm in Nigeria, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.
Hassan has had the unique opportunity of working successfully on numerous base stations in the telecommunications industry in Nigeria, at both the construction and maintenance stages. As owner and MD/CEO of RSM Services Limited for the past eight years, he has delivered projects involving over 2,000 base stations in telecom and project management, and others in consultancy and road-and-building construction.
While in Huawei, he led different teams of nationals as pioneer head of PMC in Nigeria’s telecommunications sector. He was also senior project manager, regional manager, civil/structural engineer, and supervised/managed the rollout of new construction for over 1,000 cell sites and some 800 2G & 3G networks, including BTS, NodeB, Microwave, and DWDM and involving Nigeria’s big telecom operators (MTN, Airtel, and Globacom).
In civil/structural consultancy and construction as a project engineer, Hassan supervised structural design and construction of over 50 projects, including residential, industrial, office structures, roads, and culvert/drainage.
Hassan is a registered mentor on the new ASCE Collaborate (online). For the Nigerian International Section (Local Level), he has served as treasurer and as general secretary of the Technical Committee since 2017. Before that he was member of the organizing committee for the 2017 Seminar, and has provided timely financial support for the hosting of quarterly meetings and various programs.
He was a member of the team that inaugurated the ASCE Students Chapter at LASPOTECH Lagos State and Covenant University, Ogun State, in 2013. He was also a team member for ASCE Nigeria at the APWEN program and promoted “Introduce a Girl to Engineering,” held in Lagos that year. Additionally, he was on the team that made an industrial/technical visit to Nigeria Port Authority Jetty Extension project (2013), the Eko Atlantic project (2014), the Radisson Blu Hotel Project (2014), and the Pen Cinema Flyover Project (2018).
At RSM, he was judged Best/Excellent Vendor on an ATCN tower mapping and comprehensive site audit portfolio among 19 vendors who worked on about 5,000 cell sites. He was also co-winner for Outstanding Achievement as part of a local employees’ contribution reward scheme in Huawei, 2011.
Besides his activity with ASCE, Hassan is a member of and served on the 20-year anniversary committee for the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ikeja Branch. He is also an associate member of the Nigerian Institute of Management, a registered civil engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), and a Project Management Professional.
He studied civil engineering at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, Nigeria, and Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria. He also obtained an MBA from Lagos State University in 2006.
