Mostafa Elseifi, Ph.D., P.E., F.ASCE, a professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Louisiana State University, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.
Elseifi has more than 20 years of academic and industrial experience in civil engineering in the areas of asphaltic materials, pavement management and evaluation, and sustainable infrastructure. Since joining LSU in 2007, he has successfully secured funding in 17 projects for a total of $7 million. He was PI for 13 of the projects. In 2003 he was awarded the Paul E. Torgersen Research Excellence Award at Virginia Tech for one of the top research projects performed by graduating doctoral students in the College of Engineering.
He has authored over 150 publications, including 96 in peer-reviewed journals such as ASCE’s Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering; two of his articles have already been cited over 208 and 146 times (h-index = 29 and 2,608 total citations). One received TRB’s Grant D. Mickle Award as best paper in Maintenance, Operation, and Design. In 2013, he was given the ASCE Outstanding Reviewer Award for the Journal of Engineering Mechanics and the Journal of Nanomechanics and Micromechanics. Elseifi has been the associate editor of ASCE’s Journal of Transportation Engineering since 2011. He also served as guest editor for the International Journal of Pavement Engineering to develop a special issue on cracking in pavements.
Elseifi has served on the organizing technical committee of the 2018 International Society for Asphalt Pavements in Brazil and the 2008 RILEM International on Cracking in Pavements, as well as other national and international conferences. He serves on several national committees, including two for the Transportation Research Board (TRB) and one for ASCE. He is currently a member of AFD80, Strength and Deformation Characteristics of Pavement Sections Committee, and research coordinator for AFD30, General and Emerging Pavement Design at TRB, and the ASCE Transportation and Development Institute (T&DI).
He received his B.S. in civil engineering from Cairo University, Egypt, in 1996. He also received his master’s and Ph.D. in civil engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in 1999 and 2003, respectively. He is a registered professional engineer in the State of Virginia.
