Robert H. “Bob” Rampetsreiter, a structural engineer in Wisconsin who launched and ran Rampetstreiter Engineering for 30 years, has died at 81.
Rampetsreiter, Ph.D., P.E., M.ASCE, lived a life devoted to civil engineering and to his family, from the time he wrote his Lehigh University thesis, “Compressive Properties of Thin Steel Coupons” through the founding of his own firm.
Early education and assignments saw him travel a good deal, but the life in and around Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, held his heart. Rampetsreiter worked for Rust Engineering in Pittsburgh and Sargent and Lundy in Chicago. A move to Milwaukee saw him join Klug and Smith, leave for Graef, Anhalt and Schloemer, and serve as a professor at Marquette University. In 1981, he founded Rampetsreiter Engineering.
With ASCE since 1960, Rampetsreiter was a Life Member. He earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at Marquette, a master’s in structural engineering from Lehigh University, and a doctorate in structural engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology (1971), where he was a member of Tau Beta Pi and Chi Epsilon.
His home featured an expansive library, much of which focused on world and religious history. He was an avid sports fan from his youthful days of boxing and baseball as well as a lifelong Packers fan.
