ASCE Dallas Branch President Anthony Luce, M.ASCE, known for his tremendous spirit, leadership and humor, has died at 35, following an extended battle with cancer.
Luce was a project manager in transportation systems for BGE Inc., where he had worked since 2006, first in the company’s Houston office and most recently in Frisco, Texas.
“He was a great friend, engineer and family man,” said Sean Merrell, P.E., PTOE, M.ASCE, who worked with Luce both at BGE and through ASCE Dallas. “Even though he was not feeling the best with all of his treatments and ailments, he never complained or backed down from a challenge.
“He worked as a project manager for BGE, Inc. until a few days before his passing. Many people were shocked when the news of his passing came, because he didn’t dwell on it and he didn’t want others to dwell on it either,” Merrell said.
Luce played a crucial role in the 2019 ASCE Multi-Region Leadership Conference in Dallas, and in February was named the 2019 ASCE Dallas Branch Young Engineer of the Year.
Luce earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M in 2005 and his master’s in 2006.
He is survived by his wife Sarah and two children, Hannah, 12, and Noah, 10.
“His greatest passion was his family,” Merrell said. “Spending time with his wife and children was his favorite pastime, especially family game night when he finally beat Noah at Harry Potter trivia recently.”
