Jean Griffith Hansen, P.E., F.ASCE, managing consultant and director with Ankura, a management consulting firm in Hamilton, NJ, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.
Hansen has extensive and diverse skills in construction management consulting, and experience applicable to all phases of construction and facility management projects and engagements. Her contract dispute resolution, contract risk management, and insurance claim preparation expertise is based on direct management of construction for industrial and commercial projects, with a focus on civil and architectural trades.
She has brought her ability to organize and communicate complex details into layman’s language to small boutique firms, larger privately held firms, and large public firms. Tenacity, attention to time and cost budgets, an organized approach, and quality work product all pertain. Hansen has also demonstrated the ability to develop strong and trusting relationships with clients and colleagues, mine key and critical facts from masses of detail, and develop unique and defensible analyses to suit the available data and needs of the client and engagement.
Before her current position, she was with Navigant Consulting. Forward in time, she found a passion for imparting to others the stuff of engineering experience and the breadth of career options within the civil engineering profession, sharing particularly with those at the middle and high school level but also within the community at large.
Hansen was asked to share her work-based and organizational knowledge and leadership experience with the younger profession leaders who form the ASCE Section, Branches, and Younger Member Groups. She is a past president of both the ASCE New Jersey Section and the Central Jersey Branch. She remains active on the NJ Section Student Activities/Scholarship committee, and has continued with both Branch and Section Boards as director or as “invited guest.”
She was the 2008 Civil Engineer of the Year of the ASCE Central Jersey Branch, and has been active for years in the NJ Section’s E-Week activities. She has also participated in the Middle School STEM Outreach Future City Program–NYC Metro region. When the opportunity arose in 2007 to restart the NJ-ASCE-backed NJ Regional Future City Program, she volunteered for the Steering Committee and eventually became Mentor Coordinator, with an outreach to many of the state’s professional societies.
An undercurrent through all of the above has been Hansen’s contribution for the past 40 years to bringing civil engineering out of the “old men’s club” and into the modern world, where anyone can achieve his or her dream through engineering.
