Fasano Becomes ASCE Fellow

Anthony Joseph Fasano Jr., P.E., F.ASCE, author, founder of the Engineering Management Institute, and influential civil engineering media presenter and career coach, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.

Fasano

Fasano, a civil engineer himself, left his career behind to focus on helping engineers develop their people and project management skills, and ultimately become better managers and leaders. One outgrowth of this is his hosting of The Civil Engineering Podcast. He has also written a bestselling book for engineers, Engineer Your Own Success.

For years he felt that there was a void in content and training available to engineering professionals related to core or people skills development. Fasano was inspired to create the Engineering Management Institute (EMI) and lead the creation of thousands of pieces of free professional development content for engineers. Today, EMI, under his leadership, has created the Civil Engineering Media & Entertainment Network (CEMENT), which publishes several channels focused on helping civil engineers progress, including The Structural Engineering Channel, The Geotechnical Engineering Podcast, and the newest show, This Week in Civil Engineering. These podcasts have been downloaded over 2 million times, featured several series related to important trends in the field, and covered topics such as infrastructure, women in civil engineering, and the path to becoming a civil engineering CEO.

Another important service is the recently launched Civil Engineering Collective, which offers trainings to assist with firms’ growth challenges. Fasano utilizes his own experience as an engineer to create a variety of remote training programs for EMI. He has focused on creating easily digestible and practical training programs on a wide variety of important topics.

Fasano has contributed to ASCE on many different levels. He has been active at every level of the organization, and has visited with over 30 ASCE younger member groups across the country to provide his keynote speech, “Engineer Your Own Success,” which is based on his book. He has also conducted numerous training sessions on resume building and interviewing for many ASCE student chapters. Fasano has given ASCE webinars, volunteered to lead resume workshops in ASCE’s Career by Design, and has been a leading author for the Society’s Careers & Leadership column for years, contributing over 50 articles as part of the blog’s Ask Anthony series. These have been some of ASCE’s most read content.

Fasano has no intentions of slowing down, and has a goal of continuing to evolve EMIs offerings to adapt to the needs of engineering professionals into the future. He also coaches and mentors young athletes from his kids to high school students.

He earned a B.S. and M.S. degree in civil engineering from Lafayette College and Columbia University, respectively, and his executive coaching certificate from the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC).
