Sam Chris Wamuziri, Ph.D., P.E., F.ASCE, professor of civil engineering and dean of the College of Engineering at A’Sharqiyah University, in the Sultanate of Oman, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.
Wamuziri’s research interests include occupational health and safety in construction, construction procurement, project risk management and project finance. He has served on several technical and scientific committees for national and international conferences, such as the World Construction Symposium.
Other activities include service on the executive committee of the Association of Researchers in Construction Management (ARCOM) in the United Kingdom from 2007 to 2011. He has also supervised 15 Ph.D. research students to successful completion and authored or co-authored over 90 research papers published in high-quality international journals and conference proceedings.
At present, he is a member of the editorial board of several international journals, among them the International Journal of Advances in Management Science, the Journal of Financial Management of Property and Construction and the Journal of Construction Economics and Building.
Wamuziri served as chairman of the Editorial Board and honorary editor of the UK-based journal Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers: Management, Procurement and Law for six years. He led a successful frequency increase of four to six issues published per year, and the journal saw themed editions on widely diverse and expertly selected topics. Wamuziri also oversaw the successful incorporation into the journal of a sister publication, Construction Law Quarterly.
Prior to joining academia, he gained industrial experience as a design civil engineer and then as a project manager on major infrastructure projects in Africa. During this time he was responsible for the project planning and control of major construction projects such as roads, housing, water supply and sanitation. His industrial consulting activities in the UK involved work on determination of optimal nondestructive testing inspection schemes for the Sizewell B Nuclear Power Plant.
Further consulting work involved evaluation of the performance of a design-build contract based on the concept of early contractor involvement for procurement of the Stirling-Alloa-Kincardine Rail Project in Scotland from 2003 to 2004 and reviews of Public-Private Partnership Contracts for Procurement of the M77 Motorway in Scotland.
Wamuziri holds a Ph.D. in civil engineering from the University of Manchester, in the UK.
