Benjamin Osy Okoh, C.Eng, P.E., R.Eng, S.E., CP, F.ASCE, the managing director/CEO of FieldMarshal Integrated Engineering Concept Limited, in Nigeria, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.
Okoh began his distinctive engineering career with Bulet International Nigeria Ltd. in 2006, and was involved in the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters Abuja and Phase 2 of Head of Service Building Abuja. He supervised Christabel Private School, Wuye Abuja, before joining Units Environmental Services Limited Abuja as a structural engineer, and in 2009 he joined FieldMarshal.
He has designed over 100 buildings across the country, including Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Abuja; Gee Hotel Owerri; Benue State Ministry of Justice; National College of Aviation Technology Zaria Hostel; and a 5,000-seat capacity auditorium for the Anglican Dioceses of Abuja at Duboyi District, Abuja.
Okoh joined ASCE as a Student Member in 2002, and referred over 100 students to the Society. As a regular member, he has referred over 30 engineers. He is also a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Nigerian Institution of Civil of Engineers (NICE), the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering, the National Society of Black Engineers, and the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering. He has served the engineering profession in the following capacities, among others: general secretary, NSE Abuja Branch, 2016-2018; chairman, NICE Abuja Chapter, 2016-2018; and ex-officio, NSE Abuja Branch, 2018-present.
As technical secretary of NICE Abuja, he introduced the free weekend lectures which have been enshrined as a key program of the Chapter. He also organized over 18 technical presentations and many technical visits. As technical secretary of NSE Abuja, he organized 14 local technical visits and three international technical visits to Brazil, USA and Singapore. He also published 14 newsletters and organized 19 technical presentations that were held in every General Meeting of the Branch.
In his time as chairman of NICE Abuja, the Chapter published 20 e-newsletters and did several trainings, workshops and technical presentations; also under his leadership, it launched a website and organized two major conferences. The Chapter also trained many young engineers and secured Industrial Training placements for 21 Students of the University of Abuja, and jobs for some unemployed members.
Okoh has received numerous honors. Some recent ones are the NICE Abuja Chapter Meritorious Service Award, APWEN Abuja Chapter Meritorious Honour Award, NICE Meritorious Service Award, Nigerian Institution of Water Engineers Abuja Chapter Best Master of Ceremony of the Year, ESOCS Church Oyigbo Province, Rivers State, Outstanding Leadership Award, and NSE’s Special Presidential Award, Distinguished Service Honour Award and Chairman’s Merit Award (2019).
In the past eight years, he has trained over 1,500 engineers on the application of computer-aided designs in structural and civil engineering. He has also presented many technical papers at engineering fora and moderated many high-profile functions as the Director of Programmes.
Okoh is a registered engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria. He attended Enugu State University of Science and Technology, where he distinguished himself academically and graduated in 2004 with degrees in civil engineering.
