Allen Johnson, P.E., F.ASCE, a pioneer of public infrastructure design-build and public-private partnerships, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.
Johnson has managed large and highly significant infrastructure programs and projects throughout the United States valued at more than $1.7 billion. His work with AECOM, Gresham Smith and Partners, Parsons, APAC, Fluor and HNTB defines the practice of civil engineering and construction management. He is currently manager of the $100 million Transportation Special Local Options Sales Tax Program for the City of Sandy Springs, Georgia.
He has served in leadership in three ASCE sections: Kansas City, San Francisco, and Georgia, including as Georgia Section President. The Kansas City Section honored him as the Young Engineer of 1989-1990. The Western Section of the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers recognized his leadership contributions as the Young Engineer of October 1989.
Johnson managed the design of freeway projects for the Santa Clara County Traffic Authority and San Bernardino Associated Governments, in California. These were two of the first Transportation Special Local Option Sales Tax programs in the country, and were established to address the expansive growth the state was experiencing. He was also responsible for design management of the Fifth Runway and associated projects at Hartsfield Jackson International Airport in Atlanta, made necessary by the continued growth at the world’s busiest airport. Additionally, he managed the pursuit of the Highway 52 Design-Build Project, the first design-build procured in the State of Minnesota and the largest highway contract in the state’s history.
He began his career as a highway designer for the Missouri Department of Transportation and then worked for the Cobb County Department of Transportation, in Atlanta.
