John Gambatese, Ph.D., P.E., F.ASCE, a professor in the School of Civil and Construction Engineering at Oregon State University, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.
Gambatese has worked in industry as a structural engineer in San Francisco and as a project engineer for a construction management firm in Seattle. He started his current position at OSU in 2000 following three years on the faculty at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. His expertise is in the broad areas of construction engineering and management, and structural engineering.
He has taught many courses over his career on a variety of subjects: construction safety, contracts and specifications, planning and scheduling, structural analysis and design, temporary construction structures, construction site systems engineering and engineering economics. Gambatese has performed research and published numerous articles related to construction worker safety, work zone design and safety, prevention through design, risk management, sustainability, constructability, innovation and industrialization of the construction process.
As an ASCE member, Gambatese is co-chair of the ASCE-CI Construction Safety Committee and a member of the Temporary Structures Committee and the Construction Research Council. He also works closely with the Safety Subcommittee within the ASCE Industry Leaders Council. He is a licensed professional civil engineer in California.
Gambatese earned bachelor and master of science degrees in civil engineering from the University of California at Berkeley, and a Ph.D. in civil engineering from the University of Washington.
