Keith Louis Wood, P.E., F.ASCE, a civil engineer with more than 31 years of experience, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.
For the past 14 years Wood has been employed with Central Arizona Project, where he is currently a senior project manager. He manages infrastructure projects from conception through planning, design, construction and commissioning, supporting CAP’s $4 billion aqueduct system. During his time at CAP he has managed many of the largest and highest-profile projects. Wood recently completed a $10 million project at the Mark Wilmer Pumping Plant relining two 2500-foot-long, 12-foot-diameter steel discharge lines extending vertically 830 feet, and is now working on improvements to the pump station at the plant which moves water from Lake Havasu at a rate of 3,600 cfm (1.62 million gallons per minute) utilizing six 66,000 hp electric pumps.
Prior to his tenure at CAP, Wood worked in a number of consulting firms in Phoenix, Las Vegas and El Paso. At AMEC Infrastructure, he provided design and construction management for, among other things, a $13 million sewer project in Bullhead City AZ. Prior to AMEC, Wood provided design and construction expertise to the Phoenix office of David Evans and Associates. Wood previously worked for Gray-Jansing and Associates in El Paso providing engineering and construction management services to a municipal utility district water and sewer system. He also provided construction management services through ECM-Gilbane for reconstruction of the El Paso airport in the late 90s.
Wood’s experience also includes several years with Carollo Engineers providing resident engineering services on water and sewer improvements for the El Paso Water Utility. Earlier still, he worked with a structural firm in Phoenix providing special inspections and design. Two years were also spent with Western Technologies Inc., in Las Vegas, providing special inspections for construction of large-scale facilities such as the Mirage, Excalibur, Stardust Expansion, Sands Expansion and the Las Vegas Convention Center.
His ASCE involvement began at Arizona State University in 1985, where he was active in the student chapter and concrete canoe competition. Following his internship with ADOT, he graduated in 1988 with a BSE in civil engineering and was a member of Chi Epsilon. Later experience with ASCE includes working through various positions with the El Paso Branch of ASCE, including as President in 1997-98. During his time in El Paso, Wood was also active with the Texas Society of Professional Engineers and led the Mathcounts program for five years, receiving the Texas Chapter Coordinator of the Year in 1998.
A native of Arizona, he became registered as a professional engineer in the state in 1993 and later obtained registration with Texas, Nevada and New Mexico.
