Life Member Roger K. Hanson, whose skills in water resources engineering and structural inspections enhanced works around Colorado, has died at 78 after a long illness.
Hanson, P.E., M.ASCE, joined ASCE in 1971. Over a career from the mid-1960s through 2005, he designed reservoirs and modeling water rights for the Colorado River, as well as conducted inspections of ski-lift equipment throughout Colorado’s ski resorts. He was an associate of The David E. Fleming Co. of Denver for many years.
A paper he co-authored in 1983 for ASCE’s Journal of Water Resources Planning and Management helped establish a method of determining the best designs for water supply, treatment, and conveyance systems that account for varying water demands over a year.
Hanson survived polio in his teenage years and went on to serve in the U.S. Army and Reserve Army National Guard, rising to first lieutenant. He received an engineering degree from the University of Denver, where he met his wife, Pam. In 1978 Hanson relocated to Boulder, and later moved to a mountain home in Tabernash. He was known to love fishing and hockey.
