Distinguished Member status is reserved for the most eminent of civil engineers in the Society. There are only 228 Distinguished Members among the Society’s current membership of over 150,000 people.

The Distinguished Members will be formally inducted at the Celebration of Leaders Luncheon during the ASCE 2017 Convention, Oct. 8-11, in New Orleans.

Not meaning to sow sour grapes but it appears distinguished member really means distinguished professor as every year most of the new distinguished members (this year 5 of 7) are professors. Perhaps the requirement should be reviewed to find out why moer practicing engineers aren’t acknowledged.
