ICSI 2019 – Make Sense of an Uncertain Future

Our planet is facing the convergence of increasingly severe weather, increases in population and limited natural resources, exacerbated in the United States and many other countries by outdated infrastructure that is nearing the end of its useful life. Looking over the horizon and considering the quality of life of future generations, civil engineers of today have a responsibility to plan, design, construct, operate and maintain sustainable, safe and resilient infrastructure.

To help civil engineers make sense of an uncertain future and fulfill their responsibilities to society, clients, employers, peers, the profession and the environment, ASCE will host the International Conference on Sustainable Infrastructure in Los Angeles this November. ICSI 2019 will focus on what is known and unknown about how cities of the future will be sustainable. It will be a chance for civil engineers, infrastructure managers, policymakers and other infrastructure professionals and stakeholders to see and discuss the latest developments and advancements in sustainable, safe and resilient infrastructure.

The interactive event will present cross-cutting topics and many opportunities to network and learn from recognized experts from around the world. Themes to look forward to include resiliency and disaster recovery, disruptive technologies and practices, climate change, extreme events and infrastructure’s social impacts.

We face new challenges, but we also have new tools and innovations that past generations didn’t have. ICSI 2019 will help civil engineers address these challenges and prepare for a new Future World Vision. Join us at ICSI 2019 in L.A. and don’t be left behind. We hope to see you there, so we can work together toward a sustainable, safe and resilient future.
