ASCE has honored John Kissinger, P.E., S.E., M.ASCE, with the 2021 Edmund Friedman Professional Recognition Award for exemplary professional conduct and service in the field of civil engineering, delivering vital and enduring projects; for commitment to engineering education and helping young engineers from diverse backgrounds; and for outstanding community leadership and philanthropy.
Kissinger has been president and CEO and Graef, an ENR Top 500 engineering, planning, and design firm since 2012. Also, as chairman, president, and treasurer of the Graef, Anhalt, Schloemer Foundation, he is involved in supporting the future of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM)-based careers and promoting charitable endeavors related to engineering, planning, and design. Kissinger is instrumental to the Foundation’s increase of both the endowment and the number of scholarships awarded.
With his wife, he also endows the John and Debbie Kissinger Engineering Scholarship at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee for civil engineering students.
The Edmund Friedman Professional Recognition Award is presented to a member, except an Honorary Member, of the Society who is judged to have contributed substantially to the status of the engineering profession by establishing a reputation for professional service.
