ASCE has honored Hamid Moradkhani, Ph.D., P.E., D.WRE, F.EWRI, F.ASCE, with the 2021 Arid Lands Hydraulic Engineering Award for numerous groundbreaking contributions in data assimilation as well as drought and water scarcity studies in arid and semiarid regions.
Moradkhani is considered a leading international expert on large-scale assimilation of remotely sensed information for improving the predicting capabilities of hydrological models. He also receives this award in recognition of his involvement in several international projects/initiatives, such as the International Scientific Advisory Panel (17 institutions) of Canada Floodnet, as well as serving on the U.S. Drought Task Force for nearly a decade.
The Arid Lands Hydraulic Engineering Award is given in recognition of original contributions in hydraulics; hydrology including climatology, planning, irrigation, and drainage; hydroelectric power development; navigation specially applicable to arid or semiarid climates; or contributions to the understanding and development of new technology in river basins.
