Kiranmayee (Kiran) Akunuri, P.E., PMP, F.ASCE, a civil engineer and project manager at AECOM, Salt Lake City office, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.
She has 16-plus years of experience in both the technical (civil/geotechnical/structural) and management (construction / project controls / quality / project management) sectors.
Akunuri’s passion for civil engineering originated in her childhood from an educational trip to a bridge construction site, where she was awestruck by the massive size of the bridge piers, dewatering and shoring systems, etc. She placed herself under the tutelage of Dr. B. R. Phani Kumar, who further nurtured the zeal that empowered Akunuri to pursue a career in civil engineering.
She is considered by her peers to be a diligent leader with a clear and logical vision. She has volunteered for Asha for Education (a nonprofit organization for underprivileged children in India) and advocated for the Water for People program. While with AECOM India she was a member of the Women’s Business Council.
Akunuri managed AECOM’s Geotechnical and Quality Assurance departments to the successful commissioning of 66 km (~40 miles) of metrorail in Hyderabad, India, an accomplishment that won the Best Urban Mass Transit Project award from the Government of India and the AECOM Global Innovative Project award.
She eaerned her bachelor’s degree from JNTU Kakinada and her master’s from the University of Missouri–Columbia. She is a licensed professional engineer in the state of California, a certified Project Management Professional, a CQI & IRCA Certified ISO 9001: 2015 Lead & Internal Quality Auditor, and a certified AECOM Project Manager.
